Modern slavery and human trafficking
At RSPCA Assured, we take human rights and ethical practices extremely seriously.
Our policies ensure that our work to improve farmed animal welfare is carried out transparently and responsibly, with no tolerance for slavery, trafficking or exploitation in any form.
Ethical practices
We follow robust policies to ensure our work is ethical, safe and transparent:
- Recruitment policy – we check eligibility to work in the UK for all employees, preventing forced labour or exploitation
- Whistleblowing policy – employees and volunteers can confidentially report concerns about unfair or illegal practices without fear of reprisal
- Safeguarding policy – working with the Social Care Institute for Excellence, we’ve developed organisation-wide adult and child safeguarding training, plus a dedicated reporting website
- Code of conduct – we hold everyone to high standards in their behaviour and treatment of others.
Our modern slavery statement
This statement is made under section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
It is reviewed annually to ensure we continue to meet the highest ethical standards.
We wholeheartedly support the principles behind the Modern Slavery Act and take steps to prevent slavery and trafficking across our operations and supply chain.
Our ongoing actions include:
- Strengthening governance and accountability within our environmental, social and governance agenda
- Including slavery and human rights provisions in supply contracts and checking compliance with high-risk suppliers and subcontractors
- Engaging with tier one and tier two suppliers to promote responsible supply chain practices
- Providing training for staff most likely to encounter exploitation, including RSPCA Assured staff who manage the accreditation process
- Developing organisation-wide training on modern slavery and human trafficking
- Implementing reporting and monitoring systems to track progress and remedial actions.
